This dissertation presents a research on ensembles of historical gardens and parks, discloses development of art and artistic tendencies. The research subject is the gardens and parks, their ensembles made in the territory of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (GDL) and later – in Lithuania. Art development and creative tendencies of these parks are analyzed starting from their appearance in the GDL, the epoch of the Renaissance and up to the World War II with special emphasis being made on the period from the 18th century to the middle of the 20th c. A few key objectives are raised and dealt with in this work: presentation of a chronological – historiographical and critical analysis of art development and creative tendencies of historical gardens and parks; generalization of park art development and identification of artistic style peculiarities and generalities of the research subjects in the GDL and Western Europe.
