This scientific work was written by Arnoldas Judinas. Its title is “C# and VB.NET comparison in terms of application development”. My master thesis compares two programming languages developed by Microsoft Corporation: C# and Visual Basic .NET. There are two main parts of this scientific work: theoretic analysis and programming experiments. Each of these parts is divided into smaller parts (i.e. during programming experiments I have analyzed time that take both mathematic operations and input/output operations).

I have chosen these criteria to compare programming languages:

• history;

• similarity or difference of syntax;

• rapidity of code that is being executed.

While writing master thesis the superiority of C# language became obvious. Its syntax is easier to understand because it is closer to C syntax (which is de facto standard). The execution of C# code takes less time than the execution of VB.NET code. Finally, Microsoft itself considers C# as the main programming language for non-web application development.

At the end of the master thesis I have supplied three supplements. First of all, it is a comprehensive vocabulary. It explains all the specific terms which can be found in my master thesis. The second supplement is a full list of .NET programming languages. This list shows serious Microsoft‘s attitude to .NET framework. Probably every programmer on our planet will be able to find his/her favorite programming languages in that list.

The source code of applications that were used during benchmark is written to CD which is attached to printed master thesis.
