Legal Regulation of Pharmacy Practice

This inquiry covers legal regulation of pharmacy practice in Lithuania paying extra attention to the aspect of rational use of medical preparations and providing high-quality pharmaceutical services. In this work there are analysed and estimated the Lithuanian legal acts regarding pharmaceutical enterprise as well as examine the barriers these acts provide on the way to achieving the goals stated as seen by the experts in the field.

The work consists of three principal parts. In the first part there are defined the key concepts such as Legal Regulation of Pharmacy Practice, Rational Use of Medicine Preparations, Pharmaceutical Care, Good Pharmacy Practice, Advertisement of Medical Preparations and Pharmaceutical Information, their use in Lithuanian and international research studies and Lithuanian legal acts. The second part covers the analysis of specific pharmacy enterprise regulating legal acts, identifies the principles that do not encourage rational use of medical praparations and quality pharmaceutical services. Finally, the third part examines the study based on the results of the questionnaire presented to the active Lithuanian pharmaceutical experts.

The study results enabled to construct and present certain conclussions and recommendations on how to improve the legal acts helping to ensure safe and rational administering and usage of medical preparations as well as to provide wholesome and high-quality pharmaceutical services corresponding to customer expectations.
