More and more people find themselves in destructive behavior risk groups because of the low level of psychological resistance (low self esteem) and/or a lack of skills to deal with everyday problems of life. Many people are looking for the key to solve their problems using alcohol or other addictive substances. Dependence occurs driven by diverse factors and it forms gradually. Therefore, the interpretation of what influences the development of addiction requires more attention and a micro social environment interaction analysis. Dependence on alcohol is the expression of an internal contradiction and unresolved problems. Dependence on alcohol is more than a disease or a habit because it overwhelms the whole person and determines their way of life.

Objective. To find the connections of personality traits of adolescent boys and girls as they relate the use of an addictive substance and their experienced problems (substance use, physical health, mental health, family relations, peer relations, aggressive behavior).

Test method and test. Carried out by an anonymous questionnaire. The questionnaire used for screening individuals for alcoholic beverage consumption, characteristics determine Big Five Questionnaire (Goldberg and others., 1999), Adolescent problem selection test POSIT (Elizabeth Rahdert, 1991). Obtained by processing the data used in Microsoft Excel, SPSS 13.0 for Windows software. Statistically reliable results to be considered as cases where p<0.05, P=95%.

The study included 499 pupils: 207 boys and 292 girls. The group’s ages ranged from 16 to 18 years with the average age of 16.66 years (standard deviation 0.71).

The study was carried out in the city of Panevėžys gymnasium and Kaunas City schools.

The study was conducted based on general education Masters course within the framework of an umbrella approach. The study was split between the two research investigators. I personally interviewed 260 pupils from gymnasium in Panevezys: 112 boys and 148 girls. The analysis was made according to Masters thesis corresponding to the methods using all subjects records.
