To examine the reproductive parameters of bitches and their vaginal microflora in different phases of their reproductive cycle.

Goals of the study: 1. To collect data about reproductive parameters of bitches, using interrogation. 2. To determine cytological, vaginoscopical changes of vaginal mucosa and changes of serum progesterone concentration during prooestrus/oestrus. 3. To isolate and identify vaginal microorganisms from bitches’ vagina during all phases of the reproductive cycle. 4. To determine the influence of age, breed, serum progesterone concentration and presence of microorganisms during various phases of the reproductive cycle on fertility of bitches. 5. To determine the influence of age, breed, season, interval after heat and presence of microorganisms on ethiology of pyometra in bitches.

The dissertation deals with reproductive parameters of bitches, microorganisms that prevail in vagina during different phases of the reproductive cycle, their influence on fertility and ethiology of pyometra.

In worldwide literature there is lack of data about reproduction and reproductive parameters differ depending on geographical factors of each country and its economical and social situation.

Proposal: 1. In order to determine the optimal breeding time are necessary cytologic and vaginoscopic examinations, progesterone concentration measuring in blood serum. 2. In order to prevent the spreading of pathogenic microorganisms during breeding, microflora from sexual organs of studs and brood bitches should be identified and its sensitivity to antimicrobial agents should be determined. 3. In order to control unplanned reproduction and for prevention of uterine diseases in older bitches ovariectomia or ovariohysterectomia should be performed.
