The goal of the final paper was to describe how certain elements of macro-environment influence the logistics business and to identify whether logistics companies are performing such analysis and whether analysis results are considered while doing business.

The author has set up these tasks in order to achieve the goal of the final paper:

1.Describe the concept of logistics and basic theoretical backgrounds of this business.

2.Analyze elements of macro-environment and define how they influence logistics business.

3.Determine macro-environmental elements which have the most significant influence on logistics business.

4.Investigate how companies are performing macro-environmental analysis.

5.Systematize and analyse results of the research, prepare conclusions and suggestions.

While preparing the final paper the author used the following methods: analysis and summary of academic literature, comparative analysis, process modeling, in-depth interview, survey based on the electronic questionnaire and descriptive statistical method.

Results of the research performed showed that not all Lithuanian logistics companies perform systematic macro-environmental analysis. It was identified that majority of companies recognize the necessity of macro-environmental analysis. Usually companies are analyzing only certain elements of macro-environment. As to respondents, the most relevant elements are economical and political-legal environment; other macro-environmental elements are not analyzed due to complexity and obscurity of research. The main reason due to which analysis of economical and political-legal environment is not performed is lack of money and qualified staff.

The research performed also showed that the deepest macro-environmental analysis is performed by big logistics companies. Moreover, this analysis is performed by itself, i.e. without involvement of external specialists, while smaller companies invoke analysis performed by other companies. The research performed also showed that companies, which performed macro-environmental analysis, considered its results when taking relevant strategic decisions.
