The main object of the work is project management competences. Aim of this work is to define main and determinant competences of successful project management – ability to use principles and techniques for certain project management situations. The main tasks of this work are to explore materials of project management, project communication management; define, classify and analyze project management problems; analyze similar researches of project management competences and to define main and practical project management competences by making research – interview of project managers. The main conclusion is that investment in education of competences is one of the critical success factors of organization and raises its competitive ability. After collecting materials of project management, was noticed that there is a lack of analytical discussions in this topic in Lithuania. So it was the main reason of choosing this topic. Also from analyzing literature it was defined that, the most critical element of successful project management is good project manager and the main competence is communication, so there defined challenges of good communication, reviewed and rated project management standards. After defining, classifying and analyzing project management problems there was made a conclusion, that despite the fact of variety of projects, the problems of project management are adequately universal. And the most difficult problems are connected to resources management: motivating, conflict management and other. The main part of this work was research of determinant project management competences. There was made informal interview with project managers. The result of research analysis shows, that project managers competences are reached by organization and other project competences, character features and the will to improve. Also there were classified determinant project managers, team leaders and projects competences.
