Object of the research paper: Lithuanian pension system.

Period of the research paper: from 2000 till 2005.

Aim of the research paper: to evaluate Lithuanian pension system in the context of the Welfare state.

In order to reach the aim, the following problems are being worked on:

1) to reveal the significance of the pension system;

2) to create methodology of evaluation of the Lithuanian pension system;

3) to perform evaluation of the Lithuanian pension system;

4) to offer suggestions for evaluation of the Lithuanian pension system.

To investigate the risen scientific problem and to reach the results the following methods have been used: analysis and synthesis of literature, systematic analysis, logical analysis and synthesis, statistical analysis of data, and graphic representation.

While studying scientific literature, legislation and other statements of the Republic of Lithuania on the pension system, and summarizing articles, scientific works of various authors and reports of international conferences, as well as reports, accounts and other statistical data of the state, local governments and national insurance fund of the years of 2000 – 2005, there has been performed evaluation of the Lithuanian pension system.
